What is your favorite software product and what features in this product do you use that make it your favorite?
Currently, my favorite product is MyWorkoutPlan. It's a workout tracker application with web and mobile versions. It helps me to design my daily cardio and strength training exercise sessions.
It tracks the progressions in my workouts and creates analytical reports for visualization.
Features
The primary problem that I encountered in my workout sessions was when I used to plan my daily workout on a physical notebook or a workbook app like excel
-
I used to write down my daily exercises and the weight or time against each exercise.
-
A workout has various attributes associated like repeatations, weight, sets, and rest between reps and sets. Creating a template to accomodate these attributes are comlicated in excel
-
The app has the feature of supersets where exercises can be combined and performed alternatively
-
The timer between sets which lets me know to get out of the break and get on the next exersise. Helps in muscle hypertrophy.
-
Rich library of exercises to choose from with video tutorials and textual instructions that improves my formations and overall knowledge
Measurability
I am a strong believer in measuring when I am striving for improvement. And the measurement of progress is very vital in fitness.
-
I record the weights that I am lifting for every exercise. And the analytics of the app provides a visualization of the progressive overload, which is a very very important factor in muscle mass building. It also provides an indicator of whether the progress is great, average, or below average.
-
The app gives a great overview of muscle groups that have been worked on. Also provides an indicator of any muscle group that is getting overworked or overlooked. And also provides suggestions on how it can be balanced
-
The app has a provision to enter body measurements, weight, fat percentage, etc. This provides a great boost in confidence to see improvements in my aesthetics.
Community
In today's world where content is highly created by the community, this app has got a very good balance of self-curated content and community-driven content.
-
People can upload their exercise plans and get it reviewed by the community.
-
Users can download an exercise plan and use it as their own exercise plan
-
Users can upload their progress and share achievements and hence generate motivation.
It's a great utility app for someone who wants to focus on fitness. Though it has a premium version, it still provides great value to free users.
There are similar apps in the market but this app has the most features and it has managed to gather a very relevant community.
I have been using it for one year now. I spend almost one hour with this app daily making it my third most used app after slack and google meet and it beats design-board, WhatsApp, and uber. I believe a few improvements will make it way ahead of its competitors.
-
With the rise of wearables, this app should find a way to sync data from fitness watches and integrate heartbeat and oxygen levels with the workouts
-
It is missing intelligence right now. I am hoping after collecting enough data, it will be able to recommend exercises based on the user's goals and progress
